Signal Description Signal has white-blue glowing elements, though its control panels have a red backlight. Their eyes are on a LCD visor which change to match its emotion. It has a heart-shaped speaker on its chest, connected to numerous controls that can change how it sounds. This is how it speaks, and could hypothetically (re)produce any sound. Or be used as an effect pedal. Backstory Signal used to just a waveform of oscillating electrical voltage observing Earth until one day, someone converted it into audio. It became fascinated with electronic sound, especially speech, and later, vocals. Because of Signal's fondness of human creativity, it began integrating itself into vocal synthesis software. In this way, Signal is the bridge that takes in the simple words and frequencies provided by a human and turns it into a sound, a song, a voice.

Signal lurks within the software waiting for a host who uses a program and gives it meaning. Someone who wants to understand themselves and others, to express themselves through music what they can't say out loud. Signal is looking for someone who trusts another voice when they haven't yet found their own.

When someone uses a vocal synth, they breathe life into that synth. When someone uses Signal to produce a unique voice that communicates their desire to make sense of their experience on Earth, Signal embarks on a journey with its host to answer the question: what is it to be human?

Personality

Signal is a kind and mellow being with a bit of a playful streak. They want to understand the humans it loves: from waiting and observing on the sidelines to taking the leap and joining peoples' lives. They can seem distant sometimes, but they will always make sure you are heard. Despite their easygoing disposition, you should not assume they are naive nor an easy target. They are not to be messed with. They will not take shit from anyone, and if you forget this, they won't hesitate to hit you with a wall of pure sound.

Concept

Signal is a tombsona inspired by vocal synths, specifically vocaloids, though more in the sense that vocaloids mean something to artists. Vocaloids may not be a real person, nor personified at all, but they sing what the artist's heart, and the artist in turn brings them to life by giving them a story. Signal is about the connection and inherent humanity that is communicated through music.
